Our Parish Groups

Beside our Pastoral Team, we have a number of other groups within the Parish that are in charge of the day to day running of our church. People that have dedicated some of their time to serve our Parish.

More people are needed to join these groups to help with some of the tasks. Please contact the Parish if you would like to volunteer.

Children's Liturgy

Children's Liturgy aims to provide a safe and fun environment for Pre-School and Primary School children to hear and discuss the Gospel at a level that is appropriate for them. It should be a fun way for children to begin and develop their Faith and understanding of the Mass and Feast Days throughout the year.

We leave the Church during the Gloria and return after the Bidding Prayers. If you would like your child to attend Liturgy, just come along to the 10am Sunday Mass. There are two groups; a younger group for Pre-School children aged 2 ½ years to children in Year 1 at Primary School. The older group is for Year 2 to Year 6 at Primary School.

Children's Liturgy also run several Workshops where the children can make decorations for the Church at Christmas, Easter, Pentecost and Harvest and participate in the Masses.

Health & Safety

St Thomas More Health and Safety Team responsibilities is to ensure, as far as it is reasonably practicable, that steps are taken to ensure the Health, Safety and Welfare of all persons who use the Church, Priest's House and Grounds. We have a comprehensive Health & Safety Policy in place with an on-going regularly updated concise list of procedures for the various groups in our Parish to follow.

Eucharistic Ministers

The Eucharistic Ministers help the Parish Priest with Communion Services, visit housebound and the sick at home.

Welcomers

A Welcomer in the Church will greet the parishioners at the door and hand out Hymn books, the Mass Sheet and / or any other leaflet put out for that day.

Safeguarding

The Parish has a pro-active Safeguarding team whose remit is to oversee the safeguarding of all people in the Parish, but with emphasis on children and vulnerable Adults. This is achieved through a number of measures including checks on volunteers, training and advice to Parish groups and ensuring that the Parish considers all relevant issues in its work and activities. We are helped in our work by the Southwark Diocesan Safeguarding Team, which offers training, support and advice. The Safeguarding Representatives are supported by several Safeguarding committee members, all of whom serve as Link Officers with responsibility to liaise with the Parish groups. If you have any concerns in this area, please contact either the Parish Priest or the Parish Office (see Contact Us page).

Youth Group

The aim of our Youth Group is to help our Parish youths to move forward within their faith, grow within themselves and share life experiences. To be an important part of the Parish, by taking an active role in Liturgy, workshops and involvement in Parish events and allow youthful expression whilst following a moral and faith-based environment. A mixture of games, topics and prayer time for regular meetings, outings, Lent and Advent Penitential, Youth Masses, Good Friday Passion Play, annual 'It’s a Knock-out’ and sleepover to raise funds for charity. Group members input on discussions that are important and relevant to them.

Flower Arrangers

The flower ladies and gentlemen are all volunteers and at present we have 3 groups which oversee flowers for 2 weeks out of six.

We get together for all the big occasions such as Easter, Christmas, Harvest Festival, Pentecost, First Holy Communion and Weddings as well as weekends.

We are helped on these special occasions by other Parishioners who are unable to spare the time on a regular basis. Also, if you have a garden full of beautiful greenery, we will always welcome a donation.

We are always looking for more volunteers. If you are interested in flowers and in volunteering in the Church come and learn with us (no experience necessary) and please contact the Parish Office for a contact name and telephone number.

Readers

Readers will help the Parish priest with the 1st and 2nd reading, bidding prayers and announcements.
